History of Antivirus
Most of the computer viruses written in the early mid-1980's were limited to self reproduction and had no specific damage routine built into the code.
Rootkits detection:
Antivirus software can attempt to scan for rootkits;a rootkit is a type of malware that is designed to gain administrative a level control over a computer system without being detected.
Real time protection:
Real time protection on access scanning,background guard,auto protect etc.., in other words while date loaded into the computer's active memory. when insetting CD,opening an email(or)when a file already on the computer is opened or executed.
Rogue security application:
Some apparent antivirus programs are actually malware masquerading as legitimate software such as Winfixer,MS Antivirus,and MAC Defender.
Effectiveness:
Students in December 2007 showed that the effectiveness of antivirus software had decreased in the previous year,particularly against unknown or zero day attacks.
New viruses:
Ransomware,Polymorphic code to avoid detection by virus scanners.
